Council and Citizens' Church
The Marienkirche in Lübeck
At 125 metres high, the two towers tower majestically and proudly above the surrounding buildings of Lübeck's old town and can be seen from many points in the city and the surrounding area.
The seven towers of the old town churches are often referred to as the city's crown. The view from the 50-metre-high ridge turret shows the magnificent location of St Marien Church in the historic centre of Lübeck.
St Marien (or "Marienkirche" as everyone says here) embodies the history of several eras. The building, which still dominates Lübeck's skyline today, stands for medieval religiosity, the pride of the rising bourgeoisie and Lübeck's role as the "Queen of the Hanseatic League". The Reformation and the Baroque period have also left their mark. But the wounds of war and destruction are also part of the long history.

What do I like so much about bricks?
The daily interaction with a building that is over 800 years old is a joy every single day.
