In the Christian faith, the church preserves a truth that people cannot express for themselves.
A church like St Marien is a place of peace and reflection. Our society would do well to cherish such places.
At St Marien, people pray and worship on behalf of others. They also do this on behalf of society.
Church Sundays and holidays, with their themes, music and atmosphere, shape the year.
Wherever people go or move to, they also encounter the worldwide Christian community.
Everyone can contribute to this.
Baptism: Welcome to the community
Through baptism, a person is welcomed into the church community. The baptismal blessing, ‘In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit,’ makes it clear that God will be present in the life of the person being baptised.
The baptismal candle is a symbol of the light of life, which represents hope and the future.
In Protestant baptism ceremonies, the choice of a baptismal verse is very important. The person being baptised needs one or two godparents who will help to ensure that the child grows up and is brought up in the faith. If you cannot find a godparent, please talk to us – we will find a solution. The baptism of children or adults can take place in a separate baptism service or as part of the regular church service. Registration and further information are available from the church office or our pastors.
And if you want to celebrate a little after the baptism, you can rent our rooms.

Mourning and Farewell
We want to be there for you and support you even in difficult times.
Funeral services can also be held at St Marien Church upon request. The pastors at St Marien will also accompany you to cemeteries or other churches.
